Millimeter-wave radar, in the future, will be the main on-board sensor; localization process will lead the technology, talent, capital and other from the traditional military industry to the intelligent driving industry. Compared with the ultrasonic-wave radar, the millimeter-wave radar bears merits of small size, light weight and high spatial resolution; Compared with the infrared, laser, camera and other optical sensors, the millimeter-wave radar has a strong capacity of penetrating fog, smoke and dust with the characteristics of all weather and all day. In addition, the anti-disturbance capability of millimeter-wave radar is superior to other vehicle sensors. Intelligent radar is also a powerful trend, as the radar is able to change waveform and frequency of transmitting electromagnetic waves based on the different states in target detection, target identification and target tracking. In this way, millimeter-wave radar will become the real "eye" of the vehicle that not only can realize the all weather and all day working, but also can make intelligent judgments in different traffic environments, which will be the foundation for the development of active safety technology and unmanned driving.
At present, the main use of the on-board millimeter-wave radar, in accordance with its frequency, can be divided into two categories: 24GHz millimeter-wave radar and 77GHz millimeter-wave radar. Generally, 24GHz radar detects the medium and short range, using as a BSD (Blind Spot Detection), and long-range 77GHz radar as the ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control).
The millimeter-wave radar will become the future standard ADAS main sensor, and on-board millimeter-wave radar localization will become the new outlet under the tide of intelligent driving. The millimeter-wave radar is an inevitable trend of the future development of multi-sensor fusion. In the process of development, because of the millimeter-wave radar's detection precision, high environmental adaptability for all weather use and moderate product prices, on-board millimeter-wave radar will be the core sensor of future intelligent driving industry. Whether it is the ADAS industry or unmanned driving industry, the millimeter-wave radar sensor will be one of the most core sensors in the vehicle perception terminal.
